If I had to ship something as large as a bonnet, I would probably build (or
find) a crate for it. Off the top of my head I would probably find a used
pallet for the bottom and build some sort of box on top of the pallet. When
shipping shorter height packages, there is always the possibility something
will get
stacked on it en route, so you should make sure your packaging has some sort
of crush resistance.
We receive large packages where I work via FedEx, UPS, and Airborne and all
usually arrive in good condition. What is the weight of the bonnet +
packaging? Regular FedEx (2-day & overnight) shipping has a maximum weight
restriction
of 150 pounds. FedEx 3-Day freight has a minimum weight requirement of 151
pounds. UPS appears to have the same 150 pound maximum, but I'm not sure what
services that applies too. You can check out fedex.com and ups.com. If you
know the weight and destination zip code you can call both companies for a
price quote.
There is also truck freight, but that would require you calling freight
companies for quotes and scheduling a pickup and getting it up in their truck,
etc.
Probably not quite as economical as FedEx and UPS.

small stuff. I did have someone inquire about a TR6 bonnet, of which I have
several. He ended up buying not one of mine, but one off Ebay. No sweat,
but it did get me to thinking.
So how does one ship such an item? Just stick a label on it somewhere and
haul it down to UPS? Wrap it in cardboard, build a crate, ship it via truck
or Greyhound or ?? And what are some example prices for doing so?
Some of you old timers may remember me hauling a Spitfire bonnet to VTR for
the '97 Fort Worth convention, having it perched upon the luggage rack of
my Jeep Cherokee. Who makes a box big enough for a Spit bonnet, I can't
personally deliver everywhere.
Basically I'm wondering if offering various fenders, doors, etc. on Ebay
would be worth it, or would the hassles of shipping make it not worth
the time.
