Padded Dash

Hello,

My '68 has got that hideous padded dash in it which is in pretty bad shape.
Has anybody experimented with removing the padding? I was contimplating
stripping the dash to the metal below, but I have no idea what it looks
like under there. If is simply a regular metal dash underneath that would
be pretty cool, and even if there were a few holes to fill that wouldn't be
too bad either.

Does anyone know what lurks below the foam?
