A bad regulator is possible. Normally the regulator controls the output
of the alternator, but it is possible for a defective alternator not to
respond to the control of the regulator. Take the alternator off and take
it to a parts house that can test it. That will either prove the alternator
good or bad. Has this charging system worked before, or has it been
bad since you bought the car or put that part of the car together? It is
possible that even though all the wires between the regulator and alternator
are good, somehow they may not be in the correct location in the connectors.
This could cause the alternator to put out too much.
