I'm not a machinist, but if aluminum expands, won't such expansion
actually squeeze the hole smaller since the expanding metal has to
go _somewhere_?

To my knowledge, torqueing a spark plug on a hot head is likely to lead
to needing to experiment with installing helicoil inserts :-)
