If it's like the later models, where the handle pulls out, you probably
have corrosion and gunk on the contacts. CAREFULLY pry up the
tabs that hold the switch contact board and remove it (bend the tabs
just far enough - you don't want them to fatigue and break!). Lift off
the board being CAREFUL you don't lose track of the loose spring
metal 'fingers' that ride on the shaft. Clean the contacts well, carefully
reassemble, bend the tabs back down and you should be in business.

Of course, if you have a spare switch this technique will work, as
you aren't risking much. But if you have only one switch, you're almost
assured of ruining the one and only part you have :-)
