Gordon,

  It really hasn't changed that much.  Every year I head over to the
Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix in July.  Most of the races are Pre-1960 cars
with a couple of Pre-WWII  classes also.  The 'race track' is a couple of
city streets used to tie together some wonderful winding hilly park lanes.
Every tree (and parking meter!) is protected from damage by hay bales.  I
don't imagine they would protect a car very well though?  It is a great
sight to watch MG TC's and Allards working through corners at speed; some
times with all four wheels pointing in different directions!
