Question on door and trunk locks.

Greetings,
Does anyone know what type of metal the covers
on the face of the lock tumblers are?  I mean that
round piece that goes over the area where you
insert your key.
Is it stainless, chrome plated steel, or something else?
I wanted to polish mine if they were stainless.
