Hey gang, I've checked out SB motels vs Solvang, and there is a significant
price difference (like 2X) per nite.  I do agree that Solvang after dark is
deads-ville.  On the way to Solvang from the south, one can go 154, then cut
over 246 to Solvang.  I'm told that if on 154, there is a roadhouse / tavern
before the 246 turnoff, former stagecoach stop, called Cold Creek Tavern.
While they may require advance notice for full-immersion-tequila-baptisms,
well... oops, slipped OT there.

PS: I read Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy, (catholic junior high required
reading list) but this Spanish Translation thread has me completely in the
dark.
