The smog plugs are actually 1/4" pipe threads; sort of. The following is a
description of pipe threads:
"Two common pipe thread sizes exist, the tapered National Pipe Thread (NPT)
and the straight National Standard Free-Fitting Straight Mechanical Pipe
Thread (NPSM). The tapered threads are for joining and sealing, the straight
threads are only for joining"
The plugs are a non-tapered 1/4" pipe thread (.540 x 18 tpi). Why Datsun
opted for something so odd is beyond me. However it can be rather useful.
I made up an adapter and mounted an oxygen sensor in it. It allows you to
see what is happening with each carb instead of a combination of the two at
the exhaust. A bit noisy but it works.
