thx for all the replies. this is what I have. I installed a new heater core
and lines so when I pulled the cap the coolant was low. I refilled it. the
temp while running was a hair over 190. the smoke is not bright white. it is
more bluish white. at idle it is not noticeable. when I rev it the smoke
increases. I have the engine timed but it does seem to run a little rough.
it seemed to smooth out when I played with the screws on each card to adjust
the mixture. but the engine still vibrates until I rev it up. that being
said im not sure what the engine is supposed to be like at idle so this may
be normal. when revved it smoothes out but the smoke increases. the good
news is that the new EI unit from Gary is working great! the backfire is
gone that I was getting also. so pick it apart for me please. I will torque
the head bolts down as was suggested earlier. it is my understanding that
the smoke color im getting is when it is running to rich. I have not hooked
the vacuum line up yet because I need to get the hose (tomorrow).
so if anyone has had a similar experience or would like to make a suggestion
or observation im open!
