Hi Mike,
I would use the fill plug as a gauge, just keep on pumping the trans.
oil in until it gets level with the fill plug hole: it can't get any
fuller!
I have used Penrite Manual Gearbox Oil Light, GL4 rated 80W Gear Oil,
but any good quality gear oil should be OK.
DO NOT use diff oil in the trans. or vice versa.

I must not be seeing it but I cannot seem to find the tranny capacity
for
the 4 speed on an early 67 1600 in my manual. also, what weight should
I be
using?
