Yes! It has happened! I drove my Roadster for the first time in a year
and a half! Yahoo! Took her out to break in the new engine. She ran
great and is very strong, though I have not pushed her too hard yet.
This motor has 11.7 to 1 compression (with numerous other mods) running
on 92 pump gas. I get a little knock if I am in 4th and in the lower
rpms if I accellerate harder than I need to, but with the light break in
throttle I was using today, it really did not knock much. It is very
streetable, with lots of torque. Then the cam starts to come on at
about 3200 rpms, and the engine really starts to wake up. I can hardly
wait to be able to bury my foot in it at 4 grand! Still running the
Mikunis, but I hope to get the venturies made for the SKs before too
long. I was worried about going to the 39mm venturi size, but it has
such good throttle response now with 37s in the Mikunis, I am not
concerned about losing too much low end torque with the 39s. If I am
unable to get the knock to go away completely, then I will look into the
water injection system. The fun continues!
Oh, and I am 39, had my Roadster since I was 23 (I think). Only sports
car I have ever owned, and I will never sell it or give it up until the
day I die. And after that, it goes to my wife (31 years old, a current
Roadster lover and future driver of a fire-breathing V6 turbo monster),
and after that to our daughter (8 years old, loves the Roadster). I
love this car, even when it is being a pain. And others love
Roadsters... I had no less than 8 people comment or ask about the car in
the 2 hours I drove it... everything from thumbs up to "Wow, what a
great car. You don't see those around much anymore!" Summer, here I
come!
