Make sure there are no air leaks in between the glass bowl and where it
seats.  I'd bet you have a minor leak there.    I had the same problem,
although I use mine as the primary and only fuel filter in the '67...  It
works perfectly and also allows me to clean out the crud built up in the gas
tank.
