What they were MOST interested in was breaking away
from the Crown and establishing self-government, for
many noble and many self-serving reasons. (they
stressed the noble ones) They were hardly monolithic
in their philosophy, but they were (thankfully)
successful. One could argue the same for the
Confederacy, though they were not at all successful.
The winners get to write the history to serve their
purposes. God Bless the USA.
