The back side entrance to Mt St Helens, specifically the southern road up from
Cougar... truly awesome, twisty turny smooth road. Then you get to turn off
to the road that leads to St Helens... the view will blow your mind (and that
road is fun to drive fast too if clear). The northern part of the road is
nice but bouncy... literally caught air on one unexpected bump. Had to get
out and check the car! I would drive south on I5 past the mountain, then turn
east on the road that leads to Cougar and go back north. When the paint is
done on the Blaster, that is one trip I plan to do if summer is still here.
If anyone wants to tag along, I will post it!
The access road to the western side of St Helens is not nearly as good btw.
Although I did learn some interesting facts at the ranger station there. For
example, if you had been standing at that station when St Helens blew up,
holding a hoop that was 1 meter in diameter, 2000lbs of material would have
been flying through that hoop every second... ya, your car, through the hoop,
every second.
