amps x volts = watts
If you lose volts due to an undersized wire or bad connection, either the amps
go up, making the problem worse - or the watts go down (dimlights)
Think of fluid flow, sort of. Watts is volume. Amps is pipe size and volts is
pressure.
If your pipe size is small, you need more pressure. If your pressure is small,
you need a bigger pipe.

For what it's worth, heat at fuses is usually from a poor connection, not too
much amperage. Too much amperage should blow the fuse, not cause heat. I know
you changed fuse assys but I would reevaluate why it was melting.
