Correct. A passport or equivalent (NEXUS or U.S. Passport Card) is required
for US citizens traveling to/from Canada.

Paul, I'm pretty sure that you need a passport these days, even for
travel to Canada and Mexico. Guess you can call INS or the State
Department. Most likely the info will be on the web.
