The original Miata batteries, at least through the C, were made by Panasonic,
and only shipped with new Miatas. They lasted a looooong time (12 years for
us).

You cannot buy that battery in North America. Even the replacement batteries
from the Miata dealers are OEM'd from US battery makers. IIRC, there's only two
or three left that make all the "regular" lead acid batteries.... just
different labels for the end vendors.

I'm thinking of using one of the lightweight Lithium batteries made by Braille.
Downside is cost. Otherwise, I'll just go with an Interstate from Costco like I
did for the Boxster and Ranger.

Great to hear you had good results. My batteries came from Westco Batteries &
died in a few months. Second one was warranty replacement. I may try Walmart or
Costco next time.

Iâ??m just south of Austin.

With all due respect, I've been running miata batteries in the engine
compartment of my TR6 and TR4 for years with no problems.  Likely was the
brand you used.  I buy mine at Walmart or Costco.  And, btw, I'm in Dallas.

I tried a couple Miata batteries years ago & they didnâ??t last long. The sides
of the batteries caved in. This was in Texas, so I suspect the engine
compartment heat was the problem. They are designed to live in the trunk.
