I think all 1600=E2=80=99s & 2L cars used the same alternator, so that shoul=
dn=E2=80=99t be a problem.

First unplug the harness from the voltage regulator. Is the alternator volta=
ge still high? If so you probably have a defective alternator or harness or t=
he connections to the alternator are incorrect.=20

If it is not high you have a defective regulator, it is not grounded or have=
wrong wiring between the alternator & regulator.=20

Something else to be sure is in place is the ground strap between the engine=
& body/frame. Where is your negative battery cable connected, engine or bod=
y/frame?

Peace,
Pat

About two weeks ago, my battery split, spilling acid out. I think it is bec=
ause my charging voltage is too high. I replaced the battery and just tested=
and I am getting around 17v at idle, and around 17.6 when I rev the engine.=
 Should be around 14.5 I think. Is that right? This is a 69 1600. I have som=
e parts from 69 and some from 70; I think the alternator is from 70. I belie=
ve when i first reinstalled this engine several years ago, I noticed the amp=
gauge was pegged at the top of its range, so I tried a different voltage re=
gulator. Didn't change anything. So how I determine if the alternator is p=
utting out too much voltage? And what do I do to fix it?
Thanks in advance.
Joseph
