I think the biggest disadvantage to DOT 5 is its compressability at higher temperatures. This is why most people in the racing world do not use DOT 5. There are several warnings about using DOT 5 in newer cars with ABS as well. I use it in my TR6 with no problem for a street car. It is better for my car since it only sees about 2000 miles a year.
