Delightful call last Friday from a non e-mail Friend of Triumph...John
Houlton from the Minneapolis area.
He reports that he had a spectacular grenading of his TR 4 engine at the
Looooong Race in October at Blackhawk Farms. This was complete with
flash fire in a closed cockpit, pieces of connecting rod in his lap, and
a scarring of the asphalt with mechanical bits driven downward. This was
at 6000 RPM in second gear going though turn 3a. He scrambled out
through the fog and was unhurt,.
The call was delightful because that is the kind of guy John is. He is
full of enthusiasm and ideas. He reports that he found a local supplier
that made up 10 connecting rods (Two sets w/two spares) for about $1200.
At $120/rod this is less expensive than Carillos at $200. John reports
that the con rods are 3 times the tensile strength of stock.
