Fluid Dampeners

In trying to increase the reliablility of our GT6 engine, my partner =
came up with the idea of adding a fluid balancer to the front end of the =
crank to take some of the flex and vibration out of the crank.  Has =
anybody done this? With what results?  We used a balancer from a =
5.0-liter Ford motor and it seems to make the whole motor run smoother, =
but we haven't got all that much time on the motor to tell if =
reliability is improved.  This actually increases the rotating mass.  =
Would lightening the flywheel make any sense in combination with the =
fluid dampener?

Any opinions, well-reasoned and insightful or not, are welcome.
