This 'loan me five bucks' wisecrack reminds me of one of my favorite
stupid jokes, which I think I saw on some long forgotten TV show.
Two guys standing on a street corner, talking about getting lunch.

Fellow A:  "I'm a bit short of cash, can you loan me twenty 'til payday?"

Fellow B:  Pulls bill out of wallet, hands it over, saying "No problem.
           When's payday?"

Fellow A:  "Beats me, you're the one with a job!"
