Just got back from Laguna Seca. Over 60 cars in our group 2 race. Had
a split start there were so many. We started 8 on the grid , finished 5'th.
1'st was a Gineta G4R with IRS, very fast, 2nd and 3'rd were 911s of various
sorts, 4'th was a Ladybird Special, an English tube frame club special with
Ford power ( sort like like an ugly Super Seven), 6'th was a Gineta G4, then
a couple of Super Sevens and a slew of 911s. very clean racing in all race
groups. great corner workers, the tech lines were a little slow this morning
at 7 AM. Victory Lane magazine hosted a little get together after the last
race. Weather was foggy and cool in the morning. It finally warmed up to
around 70 degrees at 1:30. We are the onlyu Morgan there, the only car on
wire wheels in group 2, all the other cars are running on Mags. There are 2
or 3 MG Bs and a GT-6 and one TR-4, maybe 6 Lotus Cortinas and 4 or More
Ginetas, they have sure become popular! Quite a few Alfa GT Vs also.
We got down to 1:54.09 on Yoko A008 rs tires. The Gineta G4r turned 1:46
and change! Like a 26R!
More to follow tomarrow. I hope I can do as well as I did today!

  Greg, hello again,
2nd message: You are of course right. Steering stuff is obtainable from
Moss Europe, as and when you can get it out of them. We have a good
relationship with them as we buy quite a lot and could probably squeeze
some out from there. If you want, can make an approach, we would buy them
directly from them put a small margin on to cover our costs and send them in
the mail. Would you like me to find out for you what the present situation
is and how cheaply we can get them for, if we can !!
  Regards
  Melvyn

    Dear Melvyn,
i was thinking today of what items we need to service the cars that
we are working on and I came up with a good one. About 2 years ago I sent a
sample of a steering worm from a '67 +4 to Peter Cox at Moss Europe in the
hope that he could have the same people that have been manufacturing the
TR-3 steering worms for him, make worms gears for Morgans. He told me at
the time that he would look into it and thought that it was entirely
possible. I have since phoned him 3 times and Emailed him 3 or 4 times. I
was only able to talk with him once on the phone around a year ago when he
said that the worm was still on his desk in front of him but that they were
in the process of moving their wherehouse and so all new projects were
temporarily on hold. We have been doing at least one steering box a month,
and every other one could use a worm. I am interested in buying 10 at least
for myself and my shop and there has to be a good market for them in other
quarters besides. I understand that they are very difficult to machine and
that a special cutter is required that cuts the worm groove on the same arc
that the peg travels. There has to be that slight "high spot" in the
center, straight forward position of the worm or it will not be possible to
have" no play" in the straight ahead postion and still be able to adjust the
box so the steering is nice and light. Because Cox is already having very
similar worms made, a right hand drive TR-3 worm is the same as a left hand
drive Morgan worm up until around 1956 or 1957 when they changed the
steering ratio to a slower ratio to lighten the steering, I thought that it
would be a good idea to contact him to have our worms made. I don't know it
you know him at all well, but maybe you can encourage him to get going with
this project as I am sure it would benefit all of use and certainly all
Morgan owners.

      Hi Greg,
Did we have a ball, thanks to all the great Morgan folk.
Trouble is put on some real pounds, only me, so starving myself at the
moment, back to within one pound of original weight.
Since returning, have been catching up, three weeks away and wow is
there lots to do in my office; have been burning the midnight oil, so just
caught up.
We talked about us quoting on Spax shocks and maybe other things, if
you would like to give me a few things that you may consider buying from us,
I will get out some prices that will hopefully make your mouth water !
Very best wishes for the moment and hear from you soon.
      Melvyn
