I'm slowly progressing with the building of my new car, a TR4A, and I am
toying with the idea of placing some salvaged body mount brackets off a
parted out frame for locating the mounting points for the roll cage. What I
have in mind, is a second set of mounts welded to the frame just in front of
the forward floorpan mounts to be used to mount a hoop under the dash. I
would then have a mount plate at the bottom of the bar which would bolt
through the floor to the frame mount. That part is pretty straight forward,
but what I have come up with at the rear I am uncertain about. Since I'm
tall, I want to mount the roll bar in the wheelwell corner next to the
package shelf, and curve it up and around the wheelwell. This places the
bottom of the rollbar directly above the space between the 2 trailing arm
mount hangers and would allow a cut down body mount bracket to be installed
in that location on the frame. Since these brackets are triangle in shape my
non engineering brain says that they will be strong enough for the task, and
with a bolt on door bar I will have a removable roll structure. So friends,
I ask you, does this sound like a good plan?
