Joe... The only thing I know about spark plugs is that if you don't get it
right the first time, colder has got to be better than hotter.
My understanding is that if the plugs are too cold, they'll foul quickly,
causing the engine to miss. Plugs that are too hot will cause detonation,
pre-ignition, expensive pistons to burn in half, and huge clouds of smoke
and steam.
If I had it to do over again, and I wish I did, I'd start one step colder
than recommended and check them after a session. Then, if appropriate, I'd
go hotter.
