Mark's idea sounds more do-able to me. If there is an available track
nearby, we could hold the 'roadies' event there. The 'Crossers would be
able to attend the VTR led event. We would effectively have our own class,
"Modifieds" at the show. Funny how one group's idea of "Original" is
another's "Modified".

Then if enough interest is found we would have the visibility to go after
sponsers for a stand alone event at a later date.

Last time I was over at my buddy Pugs' house, he gave me a nice glossy,
colour
brochure for VTR 2001. He's the local VTR zone contact, so they sent him a
batch. And while cleaning it out of the Eep a short while ago, I had a
thought. Quit groaning, it won't take too long.

The official VTR runs from Wednesday through Sunday. What would it take for
us as a group to rent a track, like Second Creek, maybe that little one up
in
Mead or somewhere in Colorado on Tuesday, Aug. 21? I know I've claimed it
is
too late to schedule the weekend before, I could be wrong on that. But one
day in the middle of the week might be doable for a reasonable sum. It
might
be possible to claim this is an IVR event and get some liability insurance
that way. I'll have to see what crossing state lines entails.

Depending on who shows up, we could have just a day of 20 minute open
practice sessions, we could line up a real race or two, we could see one of
my trusty Spits going doorknob to doorkob with a Gloria or Mayflower
sporting
foot wide slicks and 'glass flares to match. It could be a great day of
offical VTR unofficialness. I better bring some homebrew and the Weber
kettle.

So a day of basically running around a track, head for the motel, a decent
night's rest, then get to the convention with plenty of time to clean and
polish, either the car or the story.

Track rental: ????.??
Insurance ????.??

Total XXXX.XX

Entry Fee = XXXX.XX / Number of Participants

I'm suggesting this in addition to the real IVR event at Wendover over the
weekend of August 18/19. The tuesday event closer to the convention may
drag
in some of the corn belt crowd that wouldn't haul the extra miles to Utah
and back.
