The Enduro that never seemed to end.

For you who were not at Mid-Ohio this past weekend, Tim Suddard and J.K.
Jackson entered the GMS (Grassroots Motor Sports) 1957 TR-3 in the enduro
for "slow" cars. J.K. started and ran for 19 laps. We then had our
prerequisite 5 minute pit stop. While in the pits, Henry wanted to add
gas, since he had his drivers fireproof suit and balaclava and helmet on.
I originally said , "no" since I had calculated out how much gas was
required to run 60 minutes. But since he had gone to so much trouble and
looked so uncomfortable, I relented and said "OK" He then proceeded and
put in around 3 gallons.
Rick (Henry's crew) told us when our 5 minutes were about to end and Tim
went out. I figured he had about 9 laps to run. After ten laps I went
over to some friends who were pitted next to us and asked how much
longer? Mrs. Waddle said they have been running for about 63 minutes.
To make a long story shorter, the 60 minute enduro became a 70+ minute
enduro.
Therefore, if it had not been for Henry Frye, we would have run out of
gas.
Before the enduro, Henry held a "Coleman" lantern while I replaced a
water pump at 10:30 P.M. Saturday night.
Thank you Henry!
In the "feature" race Bill, Don and myself had a real "set-to" These
guys are real gentleman racers and I can not say how long it has been
since I have enjoyed myself more. At one point Don stuck the nose of his
TR-4 in where all I could think of was " there are several scenarios that
can happen and none of them are good. So I waggled my forefinger up
where he could see it (much like you would tell a truculent child "NO!"
and he picked up on it. That is not to say he had not already made the
same decision. Bill would give me the "Green Light" to pass at the end
of the long straight, even though he had the faster car. I think we gave
the fans their moneys worth, since we did it virtually every lap. I also
believe that Don had the fastest lap of our little FOT dice. Thank you
guys.
On a different note, I want to bring #20 TR-6 (the hill climb car) to the
fiftieth reunion but the powers in charge do not seem to want it. Sam
Halkias has offered me his car (which he has indicated he would not have
any trouble getting admitted), but I would rather have Sam drive his and
me drive mine. I do think I would be faster in my own car, since if I
bend it , it is still mine.

                                        J.K. Jackson
