I have now found the cause of my misfire, but cannot find the fix.

My car starts fine but when left on idle for some time will start to run
lumpy then stall. I thought it was ignition but fuel is the problem. I
managed to rule out all the main ignition parts by trial an error, so when
the engine stalled I decided to look at the fuel level in the SUs. The
front carb was empty and the rear was only slightly higher.

I have checked the fuel pumps and all looks ok and the floats and the valve
are moving freely. Surely it must be one of these. Also why do I never get
the problem when I am at racing speed, and why does the car restart without
a fuss and then run for the same length of time before the engine dies?

It makes no sense!

Russ (very frustrated but at least I know its fuel)
