I would like to thank my brother, Scott Barr, for nominating me to the FOT
list. I am relatively new to the Triumph scene. I have been trying to make VW
beetles go fast in a straight line for the last 6 or 7 years. A trip to see my
family last December got me thinking about a new direction. You see my father
let me borrow his copies of "The Last Open Road" and "Montezuma's Ferarri"
then we sat down to watch a good part of the Goodwood festival of speed on
Speedvision. Then we read through the book by that guy from Pink Floyd and
listened to the cd with engine noises real loud( my wife being from
California, kept looking out the window to see who was making all that
racket). At a family gathering the next day a lot of the men folk were talking
about there little sports cars and I was starting to feel left out and also a
little like I had been set up. Anyway back home in sunny California last March
I came across a 71 GT6 that was in decent shape and bought it on an impulse. I
am now repairing all the damage done by the DPOs and trying to have the car
ready for SCCAs northen CA driving school next March. My wife and I plan to
get our lisences and compete around the SF Bay area. There is also a Spitfire
in my garage that my dad bought on eBay last year and asked me to pick up for
him. Hmmm this is starting to sound like a conspiracy. Anyway if any of you
are in northern CA and compete I would love to hear from you about what is the
best way prepare the car to be competitive with out bumping me up to too hard
of a class. Thanks Matt Barr
