I can't speak to the "some torque still there on wheel lift" issue
because When It has happened to me, It has happened so quickly that I
haven't had any time to notice any results. But it was Quaife that told
me that if a wheel is totally off the ground, it would have the same
effect as a broken axle.

Incidentally, I thought my Quaife was broken when the axle broke and
therefore sent it to Quaife USA for inspection/repair. They blessed it
and sent it back. It was only afterwards that I discovered the real
problem. The axle had been repaired by welding a sleeve around the two
broken pieces while I was awaiting delivery of new axles from Moser.
The welds on the sleeve broke and allowed the axle to spin inside the
sleeve. So it was not apparent that the axle broke until I took it off
and inspected it.

Cheers, Joe
