That's the kid of thinking I was pursuing! Instead of the brazing I'd just
set the rings in the grooves with a .003-.005 deck height and them torque it
down. Basically an O-ringed head with wider O-rings. I was even thinking
that the fire rings could be cut out of a stock gasket and inserted in a
pinch.
But, wouldn't that be a pretty copper gasket with the rings furnace brazed
on...and annealed too.

Many have noted and I can easily agree that assembling without any rings onto
the bare block will fail. I'm not even concerned about the exposed copper, I
think there'd be simply too little material between the cylinder pairs to
seal well plus look at all the carbon and gunk that would collect in the
recess! Yuk...but wait, there's a solid carbon fire ring after a while.
Just joking...

Now lest anyone be alarmed, this isn't a serious plan, just a mental case of
the "Why nots" on a boring day at work. Thanks for all the inputs. Steve
