It may be easier to query the group for thoughts on the physicals of
diameter, length, and poundage, and then look for appropriate Eibach's or
similar new components. Springs can go soft, so rather than old competition
parts,or MGB fronts, or whatever the hot setup is said to be, just get the
numbers and go buy 'em.
Remember that what one person uses for length and poundage might not
transfer to your car because of tire variables (that can impact not only
ride heights, but effective spring rates as well), IRS vs. solid axle cars,
and no fewer than twenty or thirty other aspects. My point here is that you
need to make sure that the suggestions are reasonably transferable to your
situation. Patterning things after a fast car that is as close as possible
to yours may be a good starting point - unless, of course, it's a piece of
crap car with a talented pilot who just drives around the oddities of the
setup.
