First try reading it on a Mac--they tend to be a bit more tolerant of disk
error than PCs. I don't know of any software for salvaging data from a CD
for a Windows PC, but you might try a demo version of this on someone's
new(er) mac that has OSX.

I suspect that there's something similar for PC, but with the wide variety
of drivers used with myrids of CD manufacturers the software is probably not
as effective because it talks to the driver, not the hardware and is
therefore at the mercy of the author of the dirver.

Subject: [FOT] Problem with reading Hallett mini-disk CD

Hey everyone!

Is anyone out there a computer-info recovery specialist? Our camera
(Sony
Mavica MVC-CD400) records to a mini-disk CD. When I opened the camera
at
Hallett to change disks, the disk I took most of the Hallett shots on
had
several wierd scrapes on it at the outer edge where it flaked the disk
coating off. The camera recorded everything just fine and then gave me
a
disk error on the last pic I took. Brad and I have not been able to
read
it in any of our machines or the camera. I know CDs record from the
center
out and this is on the outer edge, but I guess the CD laser reads from
the
outside in as it spins up or something.

I have not been able to put up the Hallett Web site yet due to this.
:(

Does anyone out there have the hardware/software/knowledge to save this
data so we don't have to send it off to a recovery company? I would
hope
there is a way to force the reader to read a certain portion of the
disk,
but really don't know anything about that kind of stuff.

Thanks for any help!!!

Susan :)
