Thanks, from the peanut gallery.

I did not run them on my street car for a long time.  After a recent upgrade
in the area, I started to put them back on and could not think of a good
justification. Finally, after trimming them to clear the Toyota calipers,
powder coating them 'cause I could and generally messing around for far too
long trying to get them to fit, I gave up and, once again left them off.
I'm just very glad to hear a confirmation of what I thought in the first
place.

They are just that, dust shields to keep as much junk as possible off the
brake discs and calipers and help reduce wear of the pads. They were always
immediately thrown away as they are a determent to brake cooling and also
the
unsprung weight.
