The Waterloo Hangar of the QBs is putting the John Livingston Monoplane of
the 1930s on display at our Livingston Airport (ALO), here in Iowa.
John Livingston was was one of the best known and winningest race pilots of
the era. He garnered about 60 wins in two short years. In the 70s he became the
namesake of a book by New Age writer and pilot, Richard Bach, titled
Johnathon Livingston Seagull.
The racing Monoplane was recently and totally restored by someone in Phoenix,
AR and flown here this weekend.
John Livingston died at age 75, after he taxied a Pitts Special to the hangar
and shut it down. He was the test pilot for Pitts.
(On another note, Richard Bach is one of the favorite authors of FOT
Londoner Keith Files.) He carries a copy of Bach's "ONE" with him on his many
travels around the world.
Iowa folks spend a lot long winters dreaming and sometimes they make their
dreams come true. The Duesenberg Brothers grew up in Rockford, Iowa and only
moved to Indiana because that's where the real auto action was at the time.
