You don't need much, tension the press on the case and give it a short
stroke, then try to get the carrier out. A piece of line wrapped around the
carrier is helpful, as is a dull prybar. I've put a fair amount of pressure
on the case in cases where the fit was very snug, but usually all you need
is a little pressure to ease the preload.

Thanks for the response on the removal of the carrier.  I'll be using a
press to remove it. The question is how much movement is required to release
the carrier from the case?  I don't want to crack the housing.
