Sorry about that. Darn laptop sends off e-mails before I'm done with them.

Anyway, I haven't had a clutch explosion, but I was sure glad to have the
scattershield back in '78 when I sheared the flywheel bolts coming down thru
the esses at Sears Point.

I'm running a custom built scattershield on my Spitfire that is made from
1/4 inch mild steel plate which conforms to GCR requirements. It was hand
fabricated from two pieces using a big torch and a big hammer and welded
together. It covers from the rear engine plate back several inches and from
below the starter bendix around just past vertical so it protects the
drivers feet. It's bolted to the rear of the engine using two of the
bellhousing bolts. The scattershield is out of the car right now as is the
engine and gearbox, and I can take some photos and send them to anyone
interested. While I have not tried it out with a clutch

Earlier this year RMVR had an incident with a flywheel exploding on an MGB.

I had given thought to this danger but had kind of dismissed it. In
looking
over the archives, there was some activity regarding scatter shields in
2000
but it seems to have dead ended.

What are you folks using for scatter shields and their source. I see Uncle

Jack has (had) a metal "U" shaped shield that fits around the transmission
cover inside the car. Others feel that the shield needs to wrap around the

whole bell housing. Thoughts?

Thanks,

Dan Forgey
