The fact I was not using an old pump drive shaft or something of similar
diameter seemed to be the cause.
I chucked one up in the drill & gave it a spin and just about pegged the
gauge.
I suppose I'm glad it was not something stupid I did during assembly.
If it was, the whole motor would be suspect. Now, to get it fired up :)
