FOT'ers Mike Jackson, John Harkness and John Wiley all bought funny
Volkswagen things, but I have to admit that FV crowd does have
tons-o-fun.

The Wine and Cheese parties, sponsored as always by the Beady Eye Racing
Team, had some fantastic whining and really good cheese. Don Brick
supplied a hunk of blue to die for. Very honorable mention to John
Federici (sp?) for the smoked provolone that was really, really nice.

Another highlight was spending time Bob Colazzi and the guy Bob brought
to turn wrenches on his Lotus 7. I am terrible with names. Not only did
we have great fun giving Colazzi a hard time for any number of things
including coming in second overall in our group, but Bob's wrench is the
guy that set the speed records at Bonneville in an Alfa. He built and
drove it over 200 MPH on the salt. Had me drooling in my beer. I'll post
a couple pictures I took of the car at Watkins Glen last year when I get
a chance.

This event was the MG racers focus event for the season. There were 60
MG powered cars on track, the highlight being a MGTC that hauled. It was
driven in both Group 2 and 8, as it was shared by two drivers. It was
actually tough to pass, it had amazing straight line speed and the
driver in the Group 2 sessions was either incredibly brave or stupid. He
is certainly very talented. He tossed that 60 year old car around like
it was a real racecar. Very cool to watch. Unfortunately the gearbox
gave up end of day Saturday, and it retired for the weekend.

The schedule gave everybody 90 minutes of track time in 3 sessions on
Friday, two sessions totaling 45 minutes Saturday morning, a 10 lap
Sprint race Saturday afternoon, Sunday warm-ups and a 12 lap feature
race on Sunday morning. Plus, the MG guys got 2 All-MG feature races,
one for the fast and the other for the no-so-fast, AND a gimmick race
that I swear the drivers meeting explaining how the thing worked had to
take longer than the race would take to run. But, hey, they are MG guys.
:-) Our chaos is not that organized!!!

I'll be back next year, you folks who don't have this event on your
schedule are really missing out on a great event.
