Not Triumph, but definitely cool.

Would you please pass this along to Boot 'n Bonnet members. Jim Reid and
Martha McIntyre hosted Charles Matthews when he was here for the A-H
Conclave - - this information will be in our next SPANNER, but because the
speed attempts will be in September, it would be timely for our membership
to have this information now.
These attempts are to recreate the Austin-Healey record setting speed runs
at Bonneville in 1954 (a fact that helped sell cars!!)

Dear Lois,

It was delightful to meet you at the conclave, and I hope that you have
recovered from all your hard work. I had a good journey back home and have
been very busy with historic car racing festivals and lots of people staying
in my home.

Jim passed along your message regarding information for the next edition of
the SPANNER. The latest news on the Healeys Return to Bonneville project
... I am delighted to let you know that both the cars have now left
Australia and are on their way to Seattle, where they are due to arrive on
the 28th August. I attach an image of the cars before they left Australia.

The teams' schedule is for the cars to go to John Wilson's workshop (Healey
Lane Restorations) in Eugene, Oregon after clearing US customs. They will
then be on show at the Portland All British Car Field Meeting from 5th to
7th September before going to Miller Motorsports Park on Saturday 12th for
the AHCA Bonneville Clubs event. Technical inspection for the world of
Speed starts on Monday 14th, and the event starts on Wednesday 16th. If the
cars are successful, then they will run on Thursday and maybe even Friday.
Dave Maxwell (AHCA Bonneville) in conjunction with Wendover City council are
setting up a technical forum in the community centre for 19.00 on Wednesday
evening where the whole team will be present together with Gordon Whitby
(original Austin mechanic at the record runs) and Ron Christensen (USFRA
historian).

I am very pleased to let you know that Roy Jackson-Moore (one of the last
survivors of the 1954 record team) will be attending the event, and I am
travelling with him, arriving in Salt Lake City at midnight on Thursday 10th
September. We hope that Carroll Shelby will also be joining the team.
Carroll has some health issues, so his decision will be last minute ... we
are keeping our fingers crossed that he will be well enough to join us on
the salt.
