I don't recall what kind of car you have, but in the TR6 (or the IRS 4's) a
cracked diff mount comes across as a thunk or thud as you get on or off the
gas.

A vibration is usually going to be associated with a rotating part. Wheel,
axle, driveshaft, or the like.
