I had no idea that Ballistol is used outside of Germany.
I use Ballistol for conservations of a lot of metal things, leather of my
cars seats and so on.
It is different than WD40.

The goal is prevent hydration. Cosmolene comes to mind.  If you want an oil
based product that is amazing.. Try Ballistol spray.  I use it for storing
firearms. Simply amazing.
