More like HAD a high failure rate. Mostly because, like pertronics, they had
no steering diodes to prevent damage from reversed polarity connection.
Pertronics actually has the gall to charge a premium for their version that
has protection against reverse polarity, as if it wasn't dumb engineering to
do it that way in the first place. AFAIK the MSD has reverse polarity
protection now, which should prevent most "failures" as in "I don't know what
happened, it just quit" when you know you screwed up and got it wrong. Of
course I wouldn't know anything about that.
