Chris Lawrence, 78, creator of the 1962 Morgan Plus 4 LeMans class winner
(from which the mighty factory Plus 4 Super Sports model was designed), died
Saturday. Proprietor of Lawrence Tune, he also designed the Abarth-beating
Deep Sanderson, the stillborn Monica grand touring car, and the recent Morgan
Aero 8.
The guy knew a thing or two about TR engines and suspension design He
invented the Lawrence link suspension to get around the flaws inherent in the
VW beetle front suspension he had previously used on his Formula Junior racer,
allowing camber recovery and no change in roll center, putting him ahead of
Lotus 18s on occasion.
