Last weekend we spent some time on the business side of the British car wor=
ld. We went to the annual British Motor Trade Association (BMTA) conference=
in Kansas City.=A0=0A=0A=0AOur host was Victoria British Ltd. (www.victori=
abritish.com) The prodigious facilities were outstanding to tour in awe, th=
e staff was so pleasantly edifying and welcoming, and the event was well pl=
anned, thought out, and executed. The conference had very knowledgeable spe=
akers in their respective fields including representatives from McPherson C=
ollege's Automotive Restoration Program (www.mcpherson.edu/autorestoration)=
, Hagerty Classic Car Insurance/Grassroots Marketing (www.hagerty.com), Pra=
ther Performance Racing Engines (www.pratherracing.com), Newton Commercial =
Classic Car Interiors (http://www.newtoncomm.co.uk), as well as representat=
ives covering social media and photography from our host at Victoria Britis=
h/Long Motor Company.=0A=0A=0AIt wasn't all about business, although the at=
tendees conduct business at every waking moment, believe me. The efficaciou=
s men and women of the British Car World got to relax and socialize, but mo=
re importantly got to play a little too.=0A=0A=0AWe toured the Armacost Mus=
eum, a private collection of beautiful cars of yesterday including Cadillac=
, Rolls Royce, Kaiser, and many Studebakers, among others. They did have so=
me beautiful British cars as well including MG and Sunbeam.=A0=0A=0A=0AEach=
day worked up an appetite that was quickly stifled by some authentic KC Ba=
rbeque at Fiorella's Jack Stack BBQ one night as well as the buffet at the =
Hollywood Casino at Kansas Speedway to send us all home with full bellies.=
=0A=0A=0AA very special thanks to the InterContinental Hotel for use of the=
ir rooftop conference room for the first day and the Overland Park Marriott=
for being the secondary host hotel.=A0=0A=0A=0AI would strongly recommend =
becoming part of the BMTA if you are a restoration shop, parts manufacturer=
, or media/marketing company. It was such a pleasure to share the weekend w=
ith business owners from Alexander Racing Enterprises (www.the-vintage-race=
r.com), Niehaus Restoration Products (www.niehausrestoration.com), C&C Spec=
ialty Products (clarkandclarkinc.com), Moss Motors (www.mossmotors.com)' Br=
itish Parts NW (www.bpnorthwest.com), among many other shops, manufacturers=
, and parts suppliers alike. I would call it a great resource for a plethor=
a of knowledge and experience and an extraordinary network of like-minded f=
riends with the British car in common.=0A=0A=0AA very big thank you to Beck=
y Hanrahan and staff for welcoming us into their breathtaking facilities an=
d making us feel right at home! A very well organized and enjoyable event!!=
! Next time I come to Victoria British, I will have my Spitfire...=A0=0A=0A=
