A lot of carnage that day.
Carl Jensen (RIP, RA Competition Guru at the time) always said the issue wa=
s these big, powerful V8s laying back and creating distance between themsel=
ves and the car in front of them.=C2=A0 Many of the cars up front were stil=
l tight together, and when the track went green these guys in the back came=
storming up the hill, sometimes four wide.
After that Jensen insisted the entire grid maintain a 'car's length' betwee=
n you and the guy in front of you.=C2=A0 If you didn't, the group did not g=
et a green flag.
I can't remember for sure, but I think there was no passing until you went =
under the bridge as well.

PS=C2=A0 Later Carl Jensen re-thought the rule and told Race Groups that th=
ey would ALWAYS get a green flag, regardless of how orderly they were or we=
ren't.=C2=A0 I guess they decided=C2=A0 that was safer.
