The carbon fiber took me back a few decades.  One of my climbing buddies 
in the Wasatch Mountain Club was a mechanical engineering gradual 
student at the U of U.  He'd tell stories about try to test this 
newfangled carbon fiber stuff, and all the old stress testing machines 
they had would break before the sample part being tested.
