Lister with Rear Carb Spitting Back

Recently, there was a post from a Lister who had a problem with
the rear carb backfiring (I've since misplaced the post).  He also noted 
one plug showing lean running.

It finally occurred to me this may indicate an intake air leak near the
lean-running cylinder.  At any rate, has said Lister found/fixed the 
problem?
