I am trying to determine if I have something amiss with my front suspension.
As some of you may know, my BT7 came 'pre-disassembled' (oh joy!) and I have
been working on and off trying to get it back on its wheels. I thought I
was done after chassis painting, new wiring, etc., etc. and was just about
to set it back down when I noticed the toe-in was WAY off. With the car on
jack stands, and the crossrod adjusted as short as possible, it appears that
a quick measurement shows that I need about another INCH of toe-in.
I have spent the better part of the last two weekends and consumed
considerable amounts of beer to make me think clearer, but I just can't see
that there is anything in the front suspension that is assembled wrong. I
have compared it with the Moss pics and the service manuals. And NO, the
frame is not bent.nor the shock towers. Even more perplexing is that if I
set the adjustment rod the way it was when it came off the car (when it was
running back in 1987), I would need about 2-3 inches more toe-in.
So my question is..Is it possible that putting the car down and loading it
with the engine will make this much difference? Or will it make any
difference. I know the manual says to have the car 'laden'.
If I have something wrong, I would like to correct it now. All ideas and
pics accepted. Thanks in advance.
